Art/Performing Arts: Art with Heart!

Share your love of art with kids by becoming an Art Assistant! Volunteers are needed for at least one hour a week to help Club members in our Art programs. Engage Club members in various art projects such as drawing, photography, graffiti art, painting, dance, music and more, as well as help to set up and/or clean up art room spaces. Our Clubhouses seek Art Room Assistants Monday through Friday between the hours of 4:30pm – 6:30pm. Volunteer needs and hours may vary by location.

Tutoring/Homework Help: Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? Homework Helpers & Tutors needed!

Homework Helpers & Tutors are needed for at least one hour a week to help Club kids with their homework, which may include a variety of subjects, special projects, and/or engagement in learning activities. Grade levels of Club kids vary, but focus mostly on elementary school levels. Our Clubhouses seek homework helpers and one-on-one tutors Monday through Thursday between the hours of 4pm – 7pm. Volunteer needs and hours may vary by location.

Games Room Leader: Love to play games and have FUN? Spend your afternoon in our Games Room!

The Games Room is one of the most important areas in our Clubhouses. Kids vote with their feet, and if they are not having fun, they won’t come to the Club. The Games Room is the “hook.” As a Games Room Leader, you will run games room tournaments (pool, ping pong, Dance Dance Revolution, cards, etc.); you will create “on-the-spot-fun” activities like starting a game of “Limbo” or Line-Dancing; and you will play games like chess, checkers, and Uno with Club kids. Basically, you get to do all things FUN! Can you think of a better way to spend an afternoon? Our Clubhouses seek Games Room Leaders to serve Monday-Friday from 3-4 pm and from 5-6 p.m. Volunteer needs and hours may vary by location.

Sports/Health & Fitness: Got Game? Teach Kids How to Play Sports & Be Active.

Teach kids how to play sports and/or how to be physically active as a Sports Coach/Assistant Coach or Fitness Instructor! Volunteers are needed for at least one hour a week to help Club members learn fundamentals of sports, new fitness skills, and a love of being active. We are looking for either Coaches or Assistant Coaches for basketball, girls’ volleyball, flag football, soccer, and softball. We are also seeking Fitness Instructors who will help to run non-traditional sports activities to make sure that kids are being active and engaged regularly (Zumba, Yoga, Kickboxing, etc.). Our Clubhouses seek support Monday through Friday between the hours of 4:00pm – 6:30pm. Volunteer needs and hours may vary by location. If coaching, then occasional Saturdays will be required.

Technology/ClubTECH: Do you know how to code? Enjoy making movies? Become a ClubTECH volunteer!

Share your expertise and passion for technology by facilitating our ClubTECH programming. ClubTECH covers a wide range of topics: basic computer science, Microsoft Office skills training, coding, game development, claymation, movie making, and digital design. Volunteers are needed for at least one hour a week to facilitate programming and must commit to 10 program sessions. Curriculum and staffing support are provided. Our Clubhouses seek support Monday through Friday between the hours of 4:00pm – 6:30pm. Volunteer needs and hours may vary by location.

Gardening/Cooking: Have Green Thumbs or Culinary Talents? Teach Kids Your Passion!

Teach kids about gardening or the culinary arts! Volunteers are needed for at least one hour a week. Help Club members learn basic skills in gardening, such as: plant needs (water, food, light), soil quality, composting, nurturing, what role insects play, and more. BGCPC’s Avondale Clubhouse partners with the Avondale Methodist Church on the Avondale Garden of Faith. This community garden is in need of helpers May through September. Cooking skills that you can teach are basics of handling food and tools safely as well as exploring healthy food options. Cooking programs are a favorite among Club youth. Our Clubhouses seek Garden and Cooking Helpers (any day) Monday through Friday. Volunteer needs and hours vary by location.

You will be invited to schedule a Volunteer Orientation; all volunteers are required to pass a background check that includes fingerprinting. BGCPC covers the cost of the local and national background check, but volunteers must pay for fingerprinting costs ($50), which are due on the date of your orientation; BGCPC may be able to provide financial assistance for those in need.

You must be 18+ years-old in order to volunteer with BGCPC. Youth (ages 14 to 17) interested in volunteering are encouraged to contact their local Clubhouse to learn of how they can get involved.

Generally, we need volunteers who are able to commit to one or two hours per week, for at least three months. The times of greatest need for volunteers are weekdays from 3pm – 6pm. Some short-term projects and single-event opportunities arise occasionally.
